you should go to a heavy metal show at least once in your life

I had no clue how fucking amazing heavy music was until about two years ago. I tried listening to it before but felt it was a jumble of noise and made me feel funny feelings; I’d get uneasy and confused on what to focus on. Plus I am one of those people who physically feels music, so it was also causing sensations I was not sure about.

Two years on, a decent amount of exposure to some solid bands and live concerts (thank you to my amazing partner C for all the concerts and “hey you might like this” suggestions) I can say heavy music is a soulful experience for me!

I do have a strong opinion about heavy music that y’all need to hear (so presumptuous!): if you’ve never heard this genre of music live, you are doing yourself a disservice. Go see it live and with curiosity. Hearing, feeling, and seeing the music blast from the stage is what turned me into a lover of the genre.

Heavy music is storytelling at its finest, whether they are screaming into the mic or it’s only instrumental. It can serve as a sound track to so many moments in life and hit you right in the heart. Not all music is created equally, but there is so many talented artists out there bringing their soul to the stage.

Last night I went to a concert and discovered a new band I like, Converge. Not only did I get to go to a new venue with incredible sound, but I got the best seat in the house (thank you again to my partner C!) I also got to go solo and allow myself to feel immersed in the music without distractions.

A little show and tell shall we?

Some of my top favorite bands I’ve seen live:

Melvins, Weedeater, Chat Pile, Thou, Converge, and Pig Destroyer
(give them a listen!)

In conclusion, you should go to a heavy metal show at least once in your life….and then go again. If you need a buddy, call me up and we’ll go together ◡̈
