Last week I met up with my art friend, Dan, to make some more art. We decided to dive into a bigger piece and approach it through a favorite medium of his, collage. I’ve never been drawn to collage and the closet I got was during the making of my mixed media series, The Wisdom of Women.

I retired this series some years ago, however, there is still mixed media in my future that has some qualities from the work I accomplished in these pieces.
Dan and I approach a fresh piece of paper similarly, just make marks. Then we start drawing out what our mind completes with the lines. For instance in our piece we saw faces, bombs, a clothed figure, a snail, hands, anything our little hearts desired got picked up and drawn.
While we were drawing and collaging I had SO many ideas float into my mind that I would like to explore in my personal work. Like, what if I started one of my drawings as I always do, scribbles and then draw some details out, but then I start cutting it up and putting it back together in different ways. What if I did this on vellum?! (Although I was at the art supply store the other day and the pack of vellum I usually buy WAS EIGHTY DOLLARS. Yikes.) Anyway, I had so many ideas pop into my head while we were talking and making this piece side by side. There are so many edges you push when making art out of your comfort zone and having to work together.
I don’t know where this baby will go, but I am having so much fun making art with my friend. I’ve never done this before but have always wanted to.

Check out Dan’s work. He has unique expression that you can look at for hours:
