the smell of school

I love #2 pencils. The yellow ones – with pink erasers. And Bic ball point pens – in blue. For today’s lunch break I drew this fallout:

I often encourage people that they too can draw, and they always say to me they can’t even draw a straight line. Welp! Neither can I! This little wobbling, red line actually has a fancy name to describe it: line quality . Oh, how artsy does that sound?

The lines we draw are just another unique expression; think signatures, or handwriting, so when you draw that line that changes and grows and gets thin, or doesn’t stay on course, you are giving us a peek into your world.

I like to think of these lines as a sign of life, proof your were breathing and when you took that breath in, your line wiggled a bit. So yes, you can draw a wonky little line, and it is yours and so beautiful.

Today I got to frame one of my designs! This is classic framing design; it fit perfectly with this artists watercolor painting.

Notice how this person has lovely “line quantities” and variations to their application of color? A charming and inviting image to look at, isn’t it?

I know it takes practice to draw and truly, not everyone can draw…because you may not want to! But if you have any desire to draw – go for it.
